KCS Lawnmower Blades

If I told you you could buy a lawnmower blade that:

1 Could last as long as your lawn mower.
2 Is self sharpening
3 Is reversible
4 Can be used singly or in pairs
5 Gets sharper the more you use it.

Would you think I was kidding you??????

The Blades

Ok, these blades I developed many years ago for the Garden Service I had then. Little did I realise how hard it was going to be getting people interested in the concept. Especially the blade manufacturers.
It was the main reason I got a computer. The idea was to have a web site where people would see my product, be so impressed that they would buy all my blades and I would get rich.
HA HA

Single Blade

Double Blade

Now I did not take a couple of things into account when I designed them.

1 I am absolutely terrible at marketing.
2 The weight of the blade and the cost of transport.
3 The quality of the product.

Anyway, I went ahead with the project, even if just for the Garden Service.
Let me say that at least the idea was good enough that I could have patented it...................(I did have a provisional patent but could not afford a full one)

The "Loose" Blades

When I tried marketing the blades, little did I realise how little people care about what they are using on their machines, the quality of the cut and how good their lawns look. Usually the mower is given to somebody else who really does not care too much either.

There are a lot of very tough grasses you come across when running a Garden Service, (mainly Water Grasses) which being difficult to cut:
1 Are hard on the machine.
2 Looks untidy when cut as the grass tends to tear.
3 Is harder for the staff member using the machine and takes longer to cut.

These are the problems I wanted to overcome.
SO, my idea was to use 2 blades in tandem (square with each other). The reasons for this being that:
1 They balanced better (something I did not originally plan on but was a plus factor)
2 The extra weight of the second blade took a lot of pressure off the motor of the machine when cutting longer grass.
3 Having extra cutting blades made cutting tough grasses MUCH easier, quicker and neater.

So, why do I have a hard time selling them.

1 People do not believe my claims, or, I just get a blank stare.
2 The blades last too long so there is not much of a return market. A case in point is a guy I sold a pair of blades to who came to me a few years later (3 years I think) to ask me whether I still sold the blades because his had just worn out. So, no sales.

I still have blades on machines which I put on during my "Garden Service Days" which will probably never need replacing. This is after more than 5 years.

Blades cost around R40 each.

I will even go so far as to GUARANTEE that they will last longer than any lawnmower blade you can buy off the shelf.
